The arrest came after a two-year investigation by the RCMP's Federal Border Integrity Program into human smuggling, spokesman Const. Michael McLaughlin said Wednesday.

Women from Hong Kong were being sponsored to enter Canada and then forced to work at the brothels when they arrived in Vancouver, police allege.

The internet classifieds and the website Craigslist were used to advertise brothels in Surrey, Burnaby, Coquitlam and Richmond, which were bringing in up to $40,000 a week, said McLaughlin.

Jian Feng (Michael) Li, 47, of Burnaby is accused of living off the avails of prostitution and faces four counts of keeping a common bawdy house.
