An asparagus grower in the south of the Netherlands who employed Polish migrant workers without work permits has been fined 283,000 euros. The Council of State, the highest administrative court in the Netherlands confirmed the verdict of a lower court and rejected the appeal by the employer.
The asparagus farmer said that her business would get into insurmountable financial trouble if she was forced to pay the fines. The Council rejected the argument, saying she proved unable to substantiate her claim.
