“Anchor Baby” Bill Stuck in Committee!
Help CCN push for H.R. 698, that would deny citizenship to children born to illegal aliens
Is being born in the United States — even if parents are here illegally — proper grounds for awarding the baby U.S. citizenship?
The constitutionality of this may be arguable but current practice is not. In fact, children born to illegal aliens in the U.S. automatically become U.S. citizens, simply because they were born on U.S. soil. Called “anchor babies” because they become the anchor that keeps their parents in the United States and, later, is used to drag in relatives, these children instantly gain access to any public benefits on offer. Education, Medicaid, and welfare costs are driven higher by this new population of users. At age 21, anchor babies become eligible to petition our government officially and bring members of their immediate families and other relatives to the United States.
Between 287,000 and 363,000 births a year are said to be to illegal alien mothers. In fact, thousands of pregnant women come to the United States each year (legally or illegally) from countries all over the world so that they can give birth on U.S. soil and establish their future link to this country.
Legislation introduced by Rep. Nathan Deal (R-GA) would end the practice of automatically granting U.S. citizenship to the children of illegal aliens born in the United States. H.R. 698, the Citizen Reform Act of 2005, would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to deny citizenship at birth to children born in the United States to parents who are not citizens or permanent resident aliens.
HR 698 was referred to the Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security, and Claims in March of this year. No action has been taken on the bill since. We must demand that HR 698 be voted out of committee! HR 698 deserves an up or down vote. Citizens deserve to know about this bill and have a chance to make their views known.
Act Now:
1) Call, fax, write and E-mail your representative and ask him or her to demand action on HR 698, which would end a practice that currently adds more than 200,000 additional citizens to the United States every year and encourages illegal immigration.
2) Most importantly, ask your representatives to cosponsor a bill enacting a moratorium on all immigration in excess of 100,000 per year. This is essential to reducing illegal immigration (avoiding the “family magnet” and “safe harbor” of having an established base) and achieving U.S. population stabilization and sustainable communities, and to help generate pressure to push the anchor baby bill.

We are asking that, if at all possible, you call our office or send us the form below and sign up for our convenient automatic debit donation program today. Let us do all the work!
Of course, one-time donations in any amount are also welcome. Its EASY to donate: Just pick up the phone (1-800-466-4866) and make a credit card donation, or go to our Web site ( www.carryingcapacity.org) and make a secure, online donation, or drop a check in the mail to the address below.
CCN has been hard at work on Capitol Hill gathering support for an immigration moratorium. We need funds NOW to continue pushing for this crucial legislation. Carrying Capacity Network and its ASAP coalition allies continue to be leaders in the reductionist cause. You can rest assured that your donation will give you, dollar for dollar, the most “bang for your buck” of any organization working for immigration reduction and population stabilization.
