Immigration Scam In Canada's Funeral Homes

TORONTO, ON, Canada (UPI) — Some Canadian funeral homes have been issuing fake letters of burial that immigrants can use to sneak into the country.

A Member of Parliament told the Toronto Sun the scam is taking place in Vancouver for the most part, but it`s also beginning to pop up in Toronto.

The scam surfaced with last month`s arrest of an Indian citizen at Vancouver airport after he couldn`t remember the name of the 'sister' whose funeral he was attending, said British Columbia Liberal MP Sukh Dhaliwal.

'This person is ruining it for many genuine people in the community,' Dhaliwal said.

The man is facing deportation, as he was carrying a letter with a fake MP signature. The letter reportedly outlined the man`s relationship with the recently deceased individual, as well as time and place of funeral services.

Experts fear the practice may become widespread in the Toronto area, which has a large Asian population.
