Bissau, Guinea Bissau, 28 June Spain has provided 19 million euros to support development programs in Guinea Bissau, as a way of preventing illegal immigration of young people, the Spanish Foreign secretary said in Bissau Tuesday.
According to Bernardino Leon Grossa, who made a 24-hour visit to Bissau, the fund has already been provided and will finance development programs in Guinea Bissau between 2007 and 2009.
The Spanish governments gesture fulfilled its pledge to the Guinean authorities at the time of the donor round table meeting held in Switzerland in November, Grossa said.
Grosso also announced that on July 12 the first meeting of the mixed commission of the two countries would be held in Bissau in order to outline the axes of cooperation.
Spain has already identified the areas in which it is willing to support Guinea Bissau, namely reform of public administration, modernizing the Defense and Security forces, public infrastructure construction projects and encouraging a rise in Spanish private investment. (macauhub)
