Chinese investors are expressing more and more interest in commercial land and business properties in northern B.C., says Rodger Peterson, owner-agent of McBride Realty Center Ltd.
“They want a chance to buy reasonably priced properties during the current slowdown and then benefit when the economy picks up again,” he said Friday.
“They want to come to B.C. to get fair value in property,” Peterson said.
Peterson was invited to Beijing last October on a real-estate trade mission. He was hosted there by clients who have purchased considerable property in B.C. over the past three years.
“It was a huge success, and Rodger is working with his management team for return trips in the new year,” said Donna Peterson, his wife.
The Chinese investors are also interested in recreational properties and farmland, she said.
McBride Realty Center Ltd. is an affiliated broker for Cabela's Trophy Properties LLC in B.C., and through that firm made contacts with Chinese buyers three years ago.
“They've actively sought property in the Prince George area,” she said.
These Chinese investors wanted Mr. Peterson to come to China, and he did so during the October trip.
“They want to invest in B.C., and also facilitate immigration,” Mrs. Peterson said.
“It's very exciting.”
