BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Toronto truck driver was arrested at the U.S. border on Monday for allegedly transporting 160 kilograms of marijuana in a shipment of fire-starter wood, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Gurmit Singh, 40, an Indian citizen living in north Toronto, was detained at the Peace Bridge port of entry in Buffalo, N.Y.

Officers found the marijuana in “several large sealed bundles” after officials became suspicious of Mr. Singh's behaviour and X-rayed the truck.

The truck was destined for Worcester, Mass.

Mr. Singh was turned over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement until criminal charges can be laid, according to border officials.

Since January, more than three million vehicles have used the Peace Bridge to cross into the U.S. or Canada.
