Wellington, Sept 22 NZPA – Employers can now check online to find out whether people who apply for jobs are entitled to work in New Zealand, Immigration Minister Jonathan Coleman says.

The free service, called VisaView, was developed by the Immigration Service to help employers prepare for changes to the Immigration Act which come in on November 29, he said today.

“Under the new Act there are tougher obligations to ensure all workers are legally entitled to work in New Zealand,” Dr Coleman said.

“VisaView will help employers meet those obligations without having to grapple with red tape and overly bureaucratic measures.”

He said VisaView would check information provided by registered employers against the Immigration Service's database and in most cases there would be a quick `Yes' or `No' answer.
