AMSTERDAM Minister for Housing, Communities and Integration Ella Vogelaar joined Amsterdam mayor in welcoming 49 new Dutch citizens on Friday as part of the 2nd annual National Naturalisation Day.
The minister handed the new citizens the document allowing them to call themselves Dutch nationals.
Vogelaar said it was a special day and said she was proud that the people present had chosen the Netherlands. But she also stressed that citizenship carries with it certain obligations.
“We have a constitution and a rule of law here that everyone must adhere to. Moreover everyone has the same rights and duties, whether you are male or female, gay or straight, young or old.”
