STOCKHOLM – A Swedish far-right, anti-immigration party is attracting levels of support that would be enough to win it parliamentary seats in the 2010 elections, according to an opinion poll published Sunday.

The Swedish Democratic party (SD) has the support of 4.2 percent of Swedes, according to a survey carried out by Sifo for Svenska Dagbladet newspaper.

In Sweden, a party needs only four percent of the vote in order to gain seats. The SD took in 2.9 percent of votes in the 2006 legislative elections.

The opinion poll suggested the current centre-right coalition government had only 40.2 percent, with the leftwing opposition, which is dominated by the social democrats, registering 53.6 percent support.

The poll, of 1,888 people, was carried out between June 2 and 12.
