At a time when many people are looking for employment, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has open positions, and the agency is holding a career fair Saturday in San Diego.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sheraton Mission Valley, 1433 Camino Del Rio South.

The agency announced in January that it plans to hire about 7,000 people nationwide this year for both front-line positions such as Border Patrol agents and also for support positions, including office personnel and IT specialists.

Customs officers and Border Patrol agents will be at the fair to answer questions about their jobs, 'what they like and even what they don't like,' CBP spokeswoman Jackie Dizdul said Wednesday.

Laptops with Internet access will be available for people who want to apply for jobs online at www.cbp.gov 'In this environment, we are one of the few places that are hiring, so it's a great place to turn to,' Dizdul said.
