GOP Lawmaker Blasts Mexican President’s Comments As Inappropriate

GOP lawmaker blasts Mexican pres. comments as inappropriate

By Jordy Yager – 05/20/10 03:25 PM ET

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) blasted Mexican President Felipe Calderon on Thursday, calling the visiting dignitarys remarks on Arizonas recently implemented immigration law inappropriate.

Earlier Thursday, Calderon condemned Arizonas new immigration law during a speech to a joint session of Congress, saying it amounts to little more than racial profiling and that the United States is in need of comprehensive immigration reform.

Its inappropriate for a head of state to question our laws, especially when the state of Arizona only acted in the best interest of its citizens and with the support of seventy percent of its people, said Hatch in a statement.

Hatch said Arizona was forced to pass the immigration law which compels state law enforcement officials to require proper legal residency papers from people they suspect may be in the U.S. illegally because of the federal governments failure to stop drug and human smugglers, as well as illegal immigrants, from coming across the U.S.-Mexico border.

The state of Arizona is stepping in where the federal government has failed, said Hatch. It is trying to stop waves of illegal immigrants, many of whom are dangerous gang members and drug and human traffickers, from crossing into its communities.”

South Carolina should show support of Arizona by adopting a similar law. The people stand with you Arizona, even if the gov't doesn't.BY Dave B. on 05/20/2010 at 19:56

There is power in numbers. We have the power in November to vote out every career politician in Washington. Frankly, I don't trust any of them. Did not almost all of them go along with the stimulus package, healthcare? There are sites on the internet for citizens against illegal immigration. Join one and become active. Let them know that “We the people do have a voice and it needs to be heard. If we do not speak up now for our beliefs when. When our country has been denagrated to a third world country? I have children and grandchildren and I would like to see them grow up in a better america than what I see our country headed.BY sgranny on 05/20/2010 at 20:04

Democrats have never so rightly deserved the animal the “jackass” before now. That display by the Dems was uncalled for and shows their true colors as trusting the strong-handed, corrupt, and hypocritical leader of another state over their own countrymen. Pathetic and disgraceful.BY Last Sane Man in CA on 05/20/2010 at 22:17

If that “pipeline” in Arizonia is anything like the one leaking into the Gulf it could be awhile before it's plugged. Oh, it's been that way for sometimeReally. The good Senator seems to forget he wanted “amnesty” in 2006. Didn't we hear that same thing for the Reagan “foot soldier”, McCain, way back when. How about all those weapons that seem to get to Mexico from the US? Don't forget it's Obamas' fault. No other previous POTUS has ever had to face this. Well maybe, or maybe notBY SASQUATCH on 05/20/2010 at 23:06

Arizona Republicans have a long history of racism, including Senator Barry Goldwater attacking the Civil Rights Act, their refusal to recognize MLK's birthday as a holiday even after all the Southern states had done it, and now with their anti-Hispanic law. Only 6% of Arizona employers comply with E-Verify, but they're almost all white, so they get a pass and instead brown people get locked up like dogs.BY allen on 05/20/2010 at 23:53

I can hardly wait until the next state adopts the same law. It's about time America takes a stand to protect it's borders and citizens. It's not racial profiling when someone asks for an ID. It happens to me at least 5 times a day. By the way my name is Velazquez.BY kristine on 05/21/2010 at 02:51

Arizona,You have my vote. If the Democracts, want to punish our way of life, Than we will get the last laugh in November. Just one more nail in the Democrats coffin. Semper Fi.BY Thomas OToole on 05/21/2010 at 08:38

What's really shameful is our own President bringing in 3rd world country leader into this country an encouraging him to dog-out our own state in order to mask his unwillingness to secure the border. It's like inviting the neighborhood to dog-out your wife and kids for you're failure to parent. This “President” is not only a disgrace to the presidency and the U.S. but a total disgrace to humanity!!!BY cliff on 05/21/2010 at 08:40

Immigration Laws: Read to the bottom or youwill miss the message1. There will be no special bilingual programs in the schools.2. All ballots will be in this nation's language.3. All government business will be conducted in our language.4. Non-residents will NOT have the right to vote no matter how long they are here, including local elections.5. Non-citizens will NEVER be able to hold political office.6. Foreigners will not be a burden to the taxpayers. No welfare, no food stamps, no health care, or other government assistance programs. Any burden will be deported.7. Foreigners can invest in this country, but it must be an amount at least equal to 40,000 times the daily minimum wage.8. If foreigners come here and buy land; options will be restricted. Certain parcels including waterfront property are reserved for citizens naturally born into this country, and most property, although purchased, will ultimately revert to be being the property of Mexico.9. Foreigners may have no protests; no demonstrations, no waving of a foreign flag, no political organizing, no bad-mouthing our president or his policies. These will lead to deportation.10. If you do come to this country illegally, you will be actively hunted and when caught, sent to jail, until your deportation can be arranged. All assets will be taken from you.Too strict? The above laws are current immigration laws of MEXICO!They are strictly enforced against the Guatemalans on Mexicos southern border. They say the Guatemalans come into Mexico because they work for wages that are too cheap which brings the Mexican economy down. Guatemalans are jailed and brutalized if caught illegally entering Mexico. Yet today Mexico complains if we try to stop them from doing the same to us. What hypocrites.BY Mike on 05/21/2010 at 08:49

America, have we now woken up? Do we all now see the traitors in our midst, those who occupy Congress and the Office of President. I'm outraged by the comments made by Mexico's corrupt president and those politicians who allowed this disgrace to speak.EnoughObama needs to be impeached from office. He is a traitor and is destroying our country. In one year we are so different. Obama needs to be removed NOW.BY Patriot 2010 on 05/21/2010 at 10:28

So I guess this means that our elected officials(inclu ding Hatch) can't comment on the laws of other countries.BY some name on 05/21/2010 at 13:04

US out of AZ! Let's see From: http://www.taxfoundation.org/research/topic/13.htmlArizona taxpayers receive more federal funding per dollar of federal taxes paid than the average state. Per dollar of Federal tax collected in 2005, Arizona citizens received approximately $1.19 in the way of federal spending. So, ARIZONA IS ON WELFARE!!!Milit ary in Arizona: * Army 5,358 * Navy Marine Corps 4,559 * Air Force 11,323 * Active Duty Military 21,240 * Reserve and National Guard 18,737 * Total Personnel 39,977DAMNED GOVERNMENT JOBS!!!How dare the US provide such things to the great state of Arizona, who should be able to provide for herself!!BY Matthew E on 05/21/2010 at 15:47

He needs to include our irresponsible president and the traitorcrats in congress. Never has the nation been insulted as it was yesterday, and the traitorcrats are happy about it. Traitorcrats show their lack of patriotism on a daily basis, but after dumping on the sacrifice and honor of those gone before us, they need to question why they are even in congress. The president should be ashamed and shocked that this would be allowed to happen, on the floor of congress no less, but no he is proud. Next we will have Chavez on the house floor talking about satan and his love democracy. Traitorcrats welcome to your new home, oblivion.BY Manbearpig on 05/21/2010 at 17:07

What was Obama thinking when he let the President of Mexico address Congress and tell us what we need to do. Mexico is in a state of crisis with drug cartels. Go back home Mr. Calderon and take care of your problems and Mr. Obama please stick up for the US and support Gov Brewer. I live in AZ and I know what it is like here. All illegals need to be here legally PERIOD. End of discussionBY flossie 7777 on 05/22/2010 at 02:16

AMERICA'S “GREATEST ENEMY” IS THE CORRUPT OBAMA ADMINISTRATION. This will be the first president to ever weaken the United States of America. Carter also weakended USA (remember the Olympics slaughter?”) but Obama is Carter-on-crack. The Mexican president stood on our land and criticized AZ while a guest of Obama and the USA. Not only did Obama allow this – he invited it! Our campaigner-in-chief needs to do what he was hired to do. ALL STATES SHOULD FOLLOW ARIZONA! ILLEGAL MEANS UNLAWFUL! One reason CA is bankrupt is because they have supported illegals for years through our Welfare system. Now, other states are punishing our children because AZ stood up for America. Immigrants should go through the proper channels to become legal; otherwise, send them back to their homeland. President Obama uses his aggression and arrogance for his own agenda against the will of the American people when he should be using his will and aggression against our enemies. This is the most corrupt administration in American history. OBAMA WANTS THE LATINO VOTES – HE WILL NOT PROTECT AMERICANS. GOD HELP US ALL!BY AMERICAN CITIZEN on 05/22/2010 at 15:57
